bottom to the golden gate bridge. transit is enjoying a good ride today, problems free for a cow train a strain and the muni metro. the stockton alice interest to the bart station has been closed for a little while as they continue to build a subway to know where in downtown san francisco. >> a bay area baseball coach accused of molesting at least two children pleaded not guilty to all charges against him yesterday. joel kaufmann pleaded not guilty to four felony counts which included performing lewd acts on a child under 14 years old. this is video of him after he posted bail in march. kaufman was coached baseball at several schools, including bishop of doubt high school in oakland and palo alto high school. police say you turn himself into of 30's back in march after learning that the district attorney's office filed charges against him.

clear. it is a multicar crash and it is blocking multiple lanes of this side of the bridge. injuries are severe enough that the plan is to land a life flight helicopter on the bridge. we not know that means they will shut down both directions but they will definitely have to stop the eastbound ride in order to get beat a helicopter and there. >> when you've seen this happen in the past, they can make land a helicopter and just a couple of lanes? >> absolutely. it depends on the size of the routers and the size of the helicopter. it is likely they will shut it down in both directions. the helicopter will fit on the eastbound lanes only. there are two soldiers and three lanes so essentially it is five lanes wide. as a precaution and they will most likely shut down traffic in both sides. it is the commute directions, that is the biggest problem. it

is completely stopped. bear in mind the high-rises here and that is about 8 mi. from where our camera is located. that is solid stop traffic. this is the bridge to avoid. the bridge to the use instead would be the dumbarton bridge. if it is not too inconvenient bridge you want to go oakland north on the bay bridge. >> i saw a slice of sunshine at your bay bridge shot, and we are waking up to cooler weather. coastal fog and temperatures in the 40's. fterny conditions and mild afternoon. a couple of degrees warmer than average. the fog has does visibility down to three tenths of a mile and napa up. only a mile in santa rosa. i have more on what to expect coming up in just a couple of minutes. >> developing news out of

oakland, we were hoping to find out the problems with a cracked bolts on the bay bridge can be fixed in time for the labor day opening. the cracks were discovered and officials found out there were lots of miss steps along the way. >> to fix the problem, they have to know exactly how it started. at this point, it is all speculation. and so they can nail down this is exactly what happened, they can go from there. they're saying the opening of the bay bridge is a tie for the labor day weekend initially they came out and said yes they can fix is in three minutes into it they said it is even deeper than they thought. here is the video of the bay bridge bolts. in the process of installing them, they found out there were cracks. they're speculating it could be as simple as a galvanizing process. i

didn't get into the metal and cause it to become brittle. they're looking for to become flexible like an airplane so that it will stay. the whole point of building it in the first place to vote is to make sure the they could withstand an earthquake. they have looked into this and they have known as early as 20008 that there is a plant in ohio in charge of all of this. when they did the first batch of bolts, it did not pass the task. you would think it would have stopped right there. instead, five years later a continues to the point of installation. all these things seem very complicated to you and i, of people who don't know metal. for according to experts they brought in, it is simple. they should know about it. what we're trying to find out as if they can fix it in

standstill and the westbound direction. it is the ninth a new direction were the accident occurred at the high-rise. we still have only one lane open eastbound. that is the next commute direction for anyone that has that way. 1 01 on the southbound side it is jamming of the bay shore commute. a lot of people are turning in that direction. they will have to go down to the dumbarton bridge which is light enough both west and eastbound that it will be a good alternate route this morning. >> of going on in our with this hot spot right now. >> that is right, it will not be cleared any time sun. even the accident is clear from the eastbound lane, the westbound direction is likely to be backed up for some time. this back up reaches all the way to industrial boulevard. as you're coming off the nimitz freeway on 880 southbound, you'll be running into that was down 90 to back up for the san mateo bridge well before the

toll plaza. the alternates are the dumbarton bridge or the san francisco oakland bay bridge. the northbound and its freeway is pretty badly bogged down right now even though there is not much of a backup at the bay bridge toll plaza. that is why the dunbarton maybe you're better choice this morning. >> we are waking up to a low visibility, it is a a great start to the morning. it is definitely cooler than 24 hours ago and some locations as much as 20 degrees cooler. we will have sunshine into the afternoon, mild to warm temperatures around the seasonal average. looking at what's next, in terms of visibility we are down to three tenths of a mile for napa, 3 mi. if you're driving around half moon bay. i will have full details on what to expect in the afternoon coming up and my next report. >> we're following the latest developments out of oakland this morning where we will hopefully find out later on today the exact nature of the problem with

let us go to the traffic center of what george is getting a workout at the san mateo bridge. >> slow traffic in both directions. the san mateo bridge is effectively locked up with an accident on the eastbound side of the bridge at the high-rise section. with 2 lanes open and 1 blocked traffic is backing up on to highway 92 toward hill boulevard. traffic almost at a standstill from a 80 in the west bound direction. take a look at our live camera at the toll plaza. it tells the story pretty well. again, the back up bridge and well beyond the toll plaza. fed managed to get to of the three lanes open on the eastbound side. the tow trucks have been stuck in this back up try to get in this direction. even the tow trucks have not been able to get to the scene. they did have trouble getting in ambulance here. injuries were so serious that they had originally planned to lead a medevac

helicopter. the plans have to be scrapped because of low visibility and low ceilings. off if you want the alternate your bet would be to take the dumbarton, although, this stretch of 880 is getting heavy as you expect. so is the north bound ride on 880 heavy trying to get to the alternate which would be the san francisco/oakland bay bridge. it may be worth the trip since from the nimitz freeway there is no back or delay trying to get to the toll plaza to the bay bridge. a look at the golden gate bridge shows the typical ride is problem free in both directions. erica. >> good morning george we're starting off with great conditions it is an overcast start to the morning. for temperatures cooler than 24 hours ago. we are talking '60s, of '40's low 50s. 53 in oakland. 54 in san carlos. satellite and radar shows the cloud cover a coastal fog pushing inland. we had a bigger fall the

tough spot. they have hard times and in a bad economy. they have a shrinking amount of money. the health and retirement and all that for firefighters is costing them a ton. they say there's nothing they can do. could the firefighters take a hit and make it work? >> our personnel has already, last summer, actually before that made concessions they took salary cuts. there are some parts of our organization that increase the contributions to the pensions. our firefighters already pay their full contribution and supplement the district as far as paying for their pensions. they have made contributions already. we have cut operating costs. we are basically in a challenging economy as far as property taxes. contra costa has not recovered like some areas in the bay area. we do not have a diverse
